Why can’t writers write in simple English?

“There is a creature lurking in the dark,sitting on the mammoth structure and waiting for the immortals.It waits,waits and only waits till the last of the silver lines lying on the contours of the distant clouds disappears”.
Well,Authors give so much build up to only say that there is cat sitting on the wall till late night, and is bored to death!!!
